A delightful and very unusual Georgian purse in a "spider web" design. English or French ca. 1810
It is made of silk rounded shapes joined together with metallic plaited thread. The clasp is decorative, has a tiny ring and closes well. There is a gold metallic finial to the base.
There seems to be no sign of there ever having been a lining, but there must have been a little pouch or something similar. Otherwise it would have just been for a handkerchief.
This little purse is quite unique, and very collectible. The condition is very good and the whole very stable in spite of the delicate appearance.
A little gem!
Length 5 1/2" without finial
