This lovely bonnet is very rare. Few bonnets survived from this early period. It is of horsehair and fine straw. Decorating the bonnet are flowers and a long green silk ribbon. There is coral beading around the rim. The inside of the bonnet still has a good part of lining fabric although some has perished. It is clean.
The condition is very good. The brim decoration is partly missing, but enough remains to see how pretty it would have looked. The ribbon is in excellent condition with just a small nick here and there.
The horsehair and straw is moderately soft, so needs some inner support when displayed.
This fits a normal adult size.
