A superb and rare sewing or needlework set in yellow and rose gold and datingto 1809/1819. It is Parisian and is housed in a leather case with the itials CP.
The set consists of scissors, a bodkin, a thimble and a needlecase. The needlecase and the scissors are intricately moulded with designs typical of the early 19th century period in France where the Egyptian innfluance was noted on many such items.
The hinged case is in leather and is lined in ivory silk. The four items sit perfectly in the case, so all are original to the shaped case.
Two of the items have a hallmark or makers' marks, but we cannot decipher them clearly.
The condition is excellent - the case shows signs of use and the back has a small area of stabilisation, otherwise good.
Overall length of the case is 5" (closed)
