A rare and unusual Empire period reticule. French 1805 - 1810

This interesting reticule is in the finest knitted silk with silk tassel and silk cords. It is French and dates to the early 19th century.

The colouring is in brown, cream, forest green and red with a central carnation both sides There is fine gold threaded into the silk as well.. Om the front there is a silk tassel in various colours. and metallic thread.

The gilded embelishments are to be seen on the drawstriqng, the cords and an extravagant decorative top to the front tassel.

The reticule is lined in cream silk, to complete this over 200 year old accessory.

The colouring and design are very similar to the Egyptian influence, which was so popular at this time. The carnation is the exception.

This lovely and elegant reticule is in remarkable condition, and is in complete working order. Strong, and without any faults that can be found. The gilding has slightly dulled, which is to be expected.
