A plain white cotton deep collar with frill, ca. 1825

This charming deep collar is in white cotton and is frilled all round. It is probably English and dates to about 1825

Although plain, the cotton is of fine quality, as is the very fine hand stitching.

There is no sign of there having been ties, so this was possibly fastened with a brooch. Alternatively this may have been a "modesty " collar for putting round the neck and shoulders.

The condition is excellent and the collar measures 8" deep at the widest point.
