This is a rather rare ladies' white muslin under-dress from the early 1820s. Under garments from this early 19th century period are rare.
It is of fine muslin with a very full skirt, slightly elevated waist. back closure and long sleeves.
The base of the skirt and the sleeve cuffs have pretty whitework embroidery in a floral design.
The back closure is simply a small button at the neck, otherwise it is open to the waist. The waist closure tapes are missing.
The inside has tapes to adjust the waist, and a deep inside remnant frill of the skirt.
The condition is very good. Clean and fresh. The only damage is a 2" tear inside the tight gathering of the skirt, which does not show at all. It is hidden within the gathers.
Measurements: Length from shoulder 46"- Waist across 12" Across shoulders 14" Under-dresses were alwaysseveral inches shorter than the dress being worn.
